It’s got that classic old-school diner vibe — the kind with retro seats, vintage details everywhere, and the feeling that not much has changed in the best possible way. The building itself has been around for decades, and when they fixed it up, the goal was to keep that 1940s–50s diner feel alive, and they really did a great job with it.

What makes this place even more interesting is the story behind it. The diner was started by a young local named Levi Passmore, who actually went viral years ago for a song he made as a kid. The video ended up getting millions of views, and he used it to open a diner in his hometown because he wanted to do something for the community. Honestly, that alone makes the place worth a visit.

Friendly service, comfort food, and the kind of atmosphere where you can sit, relax, and not feel rushed. It’s the kind of place where locals come for breakfast, where people know each other, and where you just feel welcome when you walk in.

We were a table of 4 and we had a vast selection of items and everyone left happy and fully, sadly because we really wanted to try one of their milk shakes.

It’s simple, nostalgic, and full of heart — and sometimes those are the best kinds of places to find.

If you like small towns, classic diners, and places with a good story behind them, this is definitely one to add to your list. Sometimes the best meals aren’t just about the food — they’re about the people and the story behind the place, and this one has both.

Hop Into Flavor: A Mother–Daughter Night at Big Way Hot Pot Toronto

There are nights out that are tasty, and then there are nights out that turn into memories—and our dinner at Big Way Hot Pot in downtown Toronto definitely falls into the latter category.

We were continuing our mother–daughter date night, and after a fun creative session earlier in the day, we were both craving something warm, delicious, and interactive. Enter big way hot pot, my daughter had been before but insisted I just want to try —

As soon as we stepped inside Big Way Hot Pot, the aroma of savory broth and fresh ingredients hit us in the best way possible. The vibe was lively and inviting — perfect for an evening out together. The staff greeted us with smiles and helped us find our table, and showed us what to do. We were given pots and shown to a wall of ingredents

We filled out bowls with what ever we wanted then headed over to the cash where they weighed our bowls and chose our broth flavor. They took our pots and headed to the back where a team of skilled people cooked them up and added our broth. Once it was done they brought it out to us at our table and then it was time to dive into our soup.

There’s something so fun about getting to create your own soup, each pot is different. Every bite was full of flavor, and I loved being able to try new things.

Big Way Hot Pot makes it easy and delicious. My daughter was already in love with the experience and I can’t lie I can’t wait till the next time. It was a bit on the pricer side but it was a fun experience

This Trip Was Un-frog-ettable: Maple Syrup at Kortright

 

If there’s one thing that screams “spring is finally happening in Ontario,” it’s the smell of maple syrup drifting through a forest. And that’s exactly the vibe at the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Kortright Centre for Conservation.

The 2026 Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival runs on weekends from March 7 to April 6, plus extra days during March Break and Easter weekend, so there are lots of chances for families to head into the woods and celebrate Canada’s sweetest tradition.

I packed up my son and nephew and headed to Kortright, hoping for a fun day outdoors — and it did not disappoint.

I bought our tickets online a few days before we went. Prices vary depending on age and whether you’re a member, so it’s worth checking ahead.

Our first impression was honestly, how are we still in the GTA? Tall maple trees, quiet trails, and that unmistakable sugar shack smell set the tone right away. It’s not a flashy festival — it’s cozy and very nature-focused, and that’s a big part of its charm.

One of the highlights is the Maple Syrup Trail, where you follow the journey from tree to table. Along the trail there are interpreters and demonstrations showing how maple syrup is made — from traditional methods to modern evaporators. It’s actually fascinating watching the process and seeing how clear sap slowly turns into liquid gold.

You also learn that it takes about 40 litres of sap to make just one litre of syrup, which definitely makes you appreciate that pancake drizzle a lot more.

The trail itself is easy and really scenic. Some parts are paved and some are natural forest paths, so depending on the weather it can get a bit muddy, but the boys had the best time jumping in snowbanks and checking out the strategically placed sap buckets along the route.

After we finished the trail, the boys needed a washroom break and of course a snack. We headed inside — the bathrooms were clean — and then walked through the gift shop before getting in line at the café.

At the café you can grab things like pancakes with maple syrup, hot apple cider or coffee, and a few cold drinks. There was also a warmed apple blossom with ice cream and maple syrup, and I got that — it was amazing.

The pancakes are really the main event though. Nothing fancy — just warm, fluffy, and absolutely drenched in real maple syrup.

After a rest and a snack, we were ready to go again and headed for the wagon rides. This is another crowd favourite — it’s horse-drawn and takes you on a loop through the conservation area before dropping you back at the front.

It’s one of those simple activities that somehow ends up being the highlight for kids — and honestly, adults too.

There are also rotating performances and family activities on select dates throughout the festival, so depending on when you go, you might catch some live entertainment or extra demonstrations.

If you’re looking for a sign that winter is almost over and spring is on the way, this is it. The Kortright Maple Syrup Festival isn’t big and flashy, but that’s what makes it special. It’s simple, it’s outdoors, it’s educational without feeling like a lesson, and it’s one of those easy family days that just feels very Canadian.

We left a little muddy, a little sticky from maple syrup, and very ready for spring — which honestly feels like a pretty perfect day.

Hopping Through Colors: Our Fused Glass Date Night

Sometimes the best memories don’t come from big trips or fancy outings — they come from slowing down, getting a little creative, and spending time together. On this Froggy Take adventure, my daughter and I headed out for a fun mother-daughter night trying something completely new for both of us: fused glass art.

And let me tell you — it was such a fun and creative experience, but side note it took much longer that either of us expected.

We visited Glazed Expressions, a creative arts studio in Georgetown that offers things like pottery painting, glass fusing, and even pottery wheel workshops. It’s the kind of place where anyone — even beginners — can walk in and create something unique.

The studio itself has a really relaxed and welcoming vibe. When we arrived, we were greeted by the staff and shown how the fused glass drop-in activity works. If you’ve never heard of glass fusing before, the idea is pretty simple: you start with a glass base and decorate it with different pieces, colours, and shapes of glass to create your design.

After you design your piece, the studio fires it in a kiln so all the glass melts together into one finished artwork. It’s basically crafting… but with a little bit of science and magic mixed in.

Once we got our quick tutorial, we were free to start designing. There were so many colours and little glass pieces to choose from that it almost felt overwhelming — but in a good way.

My daughter jumped right in and started creating her design. I loved watching her imagination take over as she picked colours and shapes and arranged them on the glass base. Meanwhile, I worked on my own piece, trying to make something that looked halfway artistic.

It turned into one of those moments where you forget about time because you’re just focused on creating something together.

When we finished designing our pieces, we left them behind at the studio so they could be fired in the kiln. Because the glass has to melt together at very high temperatures, the pieces aren’t ready right away. The studio calls you once your artwork is finished — usually about 7–10 days later, depending on how busy it is.

Our mother-daughter fused glass night was such a great experience. It was creative, relaxing, and something completely different from our usual activities. Plus, we’ll always have our finished glass pieces as a reminder of that night.

Hoppy Birthday Chaos: Monster Jam Fun in Buffalo

 

Sometimes the best birthday gifts aren’t wrapped in paper—they roar, jump, and leave tire tracks everywhere. That was exactly the case when I surprised my 7-year-old son with Monster Jam in Buffalo for his birthday, and let me tell you, it was a day we’ll never forget.

From the moment we arrived, the excitement was electric. The arena buzzed with fans, engines revving, and the smell of rubber and dirt in the air. My son’s eyes were huge with excitement. As we walked him toward the entrance and he saw the Monster Trucks lined up, he could hardly contain himself.

We found our seats just as the trucks thundered into the arena. The noise, the flips, the jumps—it was all thrilling. Each Monster Truck had its own personality, and my son couldn’t stop cheering for his favorite, Grave Digger. There were jaw-dropping stunts, massive ramps, and even some fun crowd interaction from the drivers and commentators.

What made the experience really special was seeing my son’s pure joy. For most of the show, he was mesmerized, just taking it all in. Every so often, he’d throw his hands in the air, clap, and shout—but mostly he sat on the edge of his seat, completely captivated. I loved watching him absorb it all—it was happiness in its simplest, most contagious form.

The show also had plenty of family-friendly touches. Concessions were easy to access, and the staff were helpful and cheerful. Even with the noise and chaos, it felt safe and welcoming—a perfect setting for a birthday celebration.

By the end of the event, my son was buzzing with excitement. He talked non-stop about the tricks, the trucks, and even after we left, he loudly exclaimed how spectacular it was and asked if we could go the next day. A few days later, he’s still asking if he’ll get to see Monster Jam on his next birthday. Mission accomplished.

If you’re planning a high-octane birthday—or just a family adventure full of thrills—Monster Jam is a must. Prepare for loud engines, big smiles, and memories that will stick with you (and your little monster) long after the tires stop spinning. Pro tip: definitely bring some ear protection—it gets loud!

Ribbit-Worthy Fun: Why Blokus is a Hit in Our House

If you’re on the hunt for a board game that’s super easy to learn but still fun enough to keep coming back to, Blokus might just become a new family favourite. It’s a bright, colourful strategy game for 2–4 players, recommended for ages 7 and up, and it’s perfect for those game nights when you want something quick, engaging, and enjoyable for both kids and adults.

The idea behind Blokus is simple, but don’t let that fool you. Each player starts in their own corner of a grid board with 21 uniquely shaped pieces in their chosen colour. The goal is to get as many of your pieces onto the board as possible before the game ends. The twist? Every new piece you place can only touch your other pieces at the corners — not the edges. That one rule turns the game into a fun little brain workout as you try to squeeze in your shapes while also blocking your opponents from grabbing prime space.

A typical game lasts about 20–30 minutes, which I love. It’s long enough to feel satisfying, but short enough that you can easily play a couple of rounds in one evening.

Why My Family Loved It

• Easy to learn: Most people pick up the rules in under a minute, which means no long explanations or rulebook headaches.

• Great for mixed ages: There’s enough strategy to keep adults interested, but kids can still compete and feel successful. Our youngest player was 6 and he had a great time.

• High replay value: Every game plays out differently, so it never feels repetitive.

• Encourages thinking skills: You have to plan ahead, think spatially, and make smart moves — it’s definitely more about strategy than luck. I personally think that if you like Tetris you will like this.

Today I’m sharing my experience with the Chuck E. Cheese 60-Day Fun Pass, because before buying it, I definitely had questions — and maybe you do too.

If you’re not familiar with it, the Fun Pass is basically a family-friendly subscription to Chuck E. Cheese. It lets you visit as often as you want for two full months and comes with daily game play, food discounts, and a few fun extras along the way.

Here’s the quick rundown of what the Fun Pass includes:

• Unlimited visits to Chuck E. Cheese for 60 days

• Daily game play during each visit (you get a set number of Play Points depending on your pass level)

• Food and drink discounts — up to 50% off at higher tiers

• Exclusive perks and surprise bonus offers throughout your pass period

In Canada, there are three Fun Pass tiers — Bronze, Silver, and Gold — each offering more Play Points and bigger discounts as you move up.

If your kids love games and pizza and you’re looking for an easy reason to get out of the house, the Fun Pass might already be on your radar. I decided to look into it, purchased the Silver 60-Day Fun Pass, and here’s what I found.

Fun Pass Tiers (Canada)

The Chuck E. Cheese 60-Day Fun Pass comes in three levels, depending on how often you plan to visit:

• Bronze Pass:
  About 40 Play Points per visit, 20% off food and drinks, and typically costs around $69.99 CAD.

• Silver Pass (the one we chose):
  Around 100 Play Points per visit, 30% off food and drinks, priced at approximately $99.99 CAD.

• Gold Pass:
  The biggest value, with about 250 Play Points per visit, 50% off food and beverages, and a typical price of $169.99 CAD.

Prices and inclusions can vary by location and promotion, so it’s always a good idea to double-check with your local Chuck E. Cheese.

Note: We purchased our 60-Day Fun Pass in store. I’m not sure if it’s currently available to purchase online.

Things to Know Before You Buy

There are a few details worth knowing upfront:

• You can split Play Points across up to six additional play cards, which is great if you have more than one child.

• Play Points are issued daily and expire at the end of each business day. For example, if you load your 40 Play Points at 11 a.m., they’re only good for that day — they don’t carry over. But when you return the next day, you’ll receive your daily points again.

• You can receive discounts on Adventure Zone, which is an extra-cost attraction.

• You’ll also get discounts on additional Play Points and some food options, depending on your membership level.

• Play Points are valid at most locations — we visited two different Chuck E. Cheese locations during our pass.

• They often surprise you with bonus perks, like extra tickets or food discounts.

Why It Could Be a Great Deal

If your kids love Chuck E. Cheese or you’re looking for something easy to break up the day, the Fun Pass can really add up in value. Between unlimited visits, daily game points, and food discounts, it can save you a decent chunk of change — especially since pizza and drinks add up fast.

Over our 60-day pass, we visited 16 times. Sometimes it was a quick after-work stop during the week, other times a weekend outing. One thing I really liked was that e-tickets carry over throughout the pass, so we were able to save them up and get a better prize at the end.

Ribbit & Paint: A Creative Experience with Happy Hands

 

Sometimes the best holiday memories are the ones you make with a little creativity and a lot of laughs—and that’s exactly what we got at Happy Hands Pottery in Brampton. My 6-year-old son and I signed up for a hands-on holiday workshop, and let me tell you, it was the perfect festive outing.

The project for the day? A hot chocolate mug—a blank canvas ready for our holiday magic. The studio provided some ideas for a fun, festive design, but my little guy had other plans. He went full-on creative mode, painting his own unique artwork all over his mug. I couldn’t help but smile at his imagination and independence—it was chaos, it was colorful, and it was completely him.

Sometimes you just need to try something totally new—and a little messy—and that’s exactly how I found myself taking an Intro to Throwing Pottery class at Happy Hands Pottery Studio in Brampton.

The class was a 2-hour introductory session, and it was the perfect amount of time to learn the basics without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Our instructor walked us through everything step by step, making the whole process feel approachable—even for complete beginners like me.

We started with the fundamentals of using a pottery wheel, including how to properly center the clay (which is truly an art on its own). From there, we learned different techniques for shaping and forming the clay, all while trying to keep it from wobbling or collapsing—which happened more than once, and that’s totally part of the fun. And if you are a lefty like me don’t worry they adapted the wheel to make it easier.

What I really appreciated was how encouraging and hands-on the instructor was. She shared lots of tips and tricks, helped troubleshoot when things went sideways (literally), and reminded us that pottery isn’t about perfection—it’s about the process.

By the end of the class, each of us had created our own unique ceramic piece from start to finish, and honestly, I was so proud of mine. It might not be perfect, but it’s mine, and that made it extra special.

I left with clay on my hands, a big smile on my face, and a new appreciation for the skill that goes into pottery. It was creative, calming, and such a nice break from the usual routine. I honestly can’t wait to sign up for another course

Hopping Into Buc-ee’s: The Ultimate Road Trip Stop

After our unforgettable trip to the Smoky Mountains, we were on the road again, before our trip we kept seeing posts about Buc-ee’s Travel Center on social media. Everyone seemed to be raving about it, and honestly, we had to see if it lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert: it absolutely did.

Pulling up, the first thing we noticed was just how massive the place is. Rows and rows of gas pumps made filling up a breeze—no long lines, no waiting around, just smooth sailing. And the parking lot? Plenty of space.

We ventured inside and it’s a whole other world. The bathrooms are immaculate—so clean you almost want to linger, which is rare for a travel stop. But the real treat? The warm nuts. We couldn’t decide which one so we grabbed a few different ones honestly, they were the perfect little snack to nibble on while exploring.

The drink selection was incredible too. From classic sodas to fancy coffee options, they had everything you could imagine. And of course, the shelves were stocked with snacks, gifts, and even souvenirs if you’re into collecting quirky road trip mementos – which I think makes a trip.

We walked around a bit, taking it all in, and it was easy to see why people rave about Buc-ee’s. Clean, convenient, and fun—it’s the kind of pit stop that makes you wish every gas station was this good.

If you’re passing through after a trip to the Smokies (or honestly, anywhere you happen to see one), do yourself a favor and make a stop. Your bladder, your taste buds, and your travel photos will thank you.

Toad-ally Amazing Views: Chasing Fog in the Smoky Mountains

 

The Smoky Mountains have been on my must-visit list for ages, and our recent trip did not disappoint! We stayed at the KOA in Pigeon Forge, which was the perfect cozy base for our adventure. The campground was clean, friendly, and had that laid-back vibe that makes you feel like you’re stepping away from everyday life. I loved the lazy river pool, fire and hot tub.

We were short on time and after we checked into our cabin we set out to chase those famous mountain views. Driving up the mountain’s as the sun is starting to set might not be the ideal time but as we drove higher, the fog got thicker, making everything feel magical and a little mysterious. The higher we climbed, the more breathtaking the scenery became. At the top, we were surrounded by clouds, and more fog but it was a great time it was one of those moments where you just pause, take a deep breath, and soak it all in.

Even in the mist, the views were spectacular, and I kept snapping photos, trying to capture even a fraction of the magic. Being up there, with the cool air, the fog swirling around, and the quiet of the mountains, it felt like a world away from the city—and I loved every second.

We didn’t get to do everything this time, but that’s the beauty of the Smokies: there’s always a reason to go back. Next time, we’re hoping to explore some of the attractions in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area, like Dollywood, The Island in Pigeon Forge, Ripley’s Aquarium, and the various scenic hiking trails and ziplining experiences. There’s just so much to see and do, and we can’t wait to hop back up those foggy peaks and soak in even more of the adventure.

I finally got a chance to visit the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., and honestly, it felt like stepping into a world of pure wonder. From the moment you walk in, it’s like the Earth’s story unfolds right before your eyes—giant fossils, sparkling gemstones, and tiny creatures that seem almost magical.

Walking through the rotunda, the iconic African elephant immediately grabs your attention. It’s big, impressive, and instantly sets the tone for the adventure ahead. And just like every Smithsonian, admission is free—which makes it so easy to pop in for an hour… and somehow stay all day!

Here are a two of my absolute favorites:

Fossil Hall: Deep Time – Dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals, and the story of life on Earth. I could spend hours just staring at the T. rex and imagining ancient worlds.

Ocean Hall – From a life-size North Atlantic right whale to bizarre deep-sea creatures, this exhibit makes you feel the vastness and mystery of our oceans.

It’s not just about the collections—it’s the feeling of curiosity and awe that hits you the second you step inside. Kids are mesmerized by skeletons, adults linger over the details, and everyone leaves a little more amazed by the world we live in. Plus, the exhibits change regularly, so every visit feels fresh and exciting.

• Arrive early to beat the crowds.

• Wear comfy shoes—you’ll do a lot of walking!

Hey friends! My family and I finally got the chance to spend some time at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and I have to say—it did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a spot that’s fun, relaxing, and surprisingly educational, this place is a total win.

From the moment you step through the gates, it feels less like a zoo and more like a scenic park with animals sprinkled throughout. The winding paths, tall trees, and rolling hills make it easy to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and just let curiosity guide the way. Bonus? Admission is completely free, which feels like a little miracle in today’s world. You do need to pay for parking if you are driving

There’s something for everyone here:

• Elephants: Large habitats make it easy to watch these gentle giants roam, forage, and splash around for what feels like hours.

• Big cats: Lions and tigers are full of wow-factor—especially if you catch them playing or during feeding time.

• Primates: From gorillas to orangutans, their personalities are endlessly entertaining

I loved how thoughtfully designed the habitats are. They don’t feel like cages; it’s like you’re watching animals live their lives naturally, and you just happen to be there.

Being part of the Smithsonian, the National Zoo blends education seamlessly into the experience. Frogs, Fun, and Lego Runs

A few weeks ago, my 6-year-old and I finally checked out Legoland Discovery Centre Toronto, and let me tell you — for my little Lego-lover, this place was absolute magic.

From the moment we walked in, his eyes were HUGE. You could practically feel the excitement buzzing off him! Bright colors, giant Lego models, and super friendly staff immediately set the tone for a fun, kid-focused adventure.

We kicked things off in a room that showed how Lego is made. I loved that it was educational, but my son barely noticed because he was having so much fun exploring everything.

Next up was Kingdom Quest, a little laser-shooting dark ride where we had to “save the princess.” He loved it so much he insisted we go twice. Watching him giggle as he aimed his laser made me grin too.

Then came Mini Land, which honestly blew me away — even as an adult. It’s a mini Toronto made entirely out of Lego bricks: CN Tower, Rogers Centre, downtown skyline — the works. My son kept pressing all the buttons that make different scenes move or light up. I loved watching him point out landmarks he recognized, and us showing him areas we’ll actually be visiting someday.

After exploring Mini Land, we hit the Build & Test Zone. If your kid likes building and racing things (and let’s be honest, what kid doesn’t?), this is the place. My son built probably 10 different cars, trying to make “the fastest one ever” for the racetrack. Simple activity, but honestly one of the best parts of our day.

The 4D cinema was a fun surprise. They had four different short films that played every 30 minutes — perfect for keeping little attention spans happy. The wind and water effects had my son cracking up, especially when he got “sprayed” during the Lego storm scene.

We also spent time in the soft block area, where he could build large-scale versions of things he’s already built at home, and the Duplo area for toddlers (which some biggerskids were loving). I really appreciated that everything is divided into zones — it keeps everyone happy and prevents sensory overload.

Things to Know Before You Go

• It can get busy, especially at peak times. Going early on a Friday helped us avoid some of the crowds.

• Expect to spend 2–3 hours there, depending on your child’s pace — we stayed almost all day because he was having that much fun.

• Adults must be accompanied by a child, so it’s very much a kid-first experience.

• You can’t bring in food or drinks, but we brought a water bottle with no issues. There’s also a café with reasonably priced options if you need a snack.

Legoland Discovery Centre Toronto isn’t a full-day theme park, but for a half-day (or even most of a day) adventure with kids in the 4–8 range, it’s fantastic. My son was smiling the entire time, and honestly, that’s the review that matters most.

We left with a small Lego set (of course we did), tired legs, and happy hearts. If you’re looking for a hands-on, imagination-fueled outing for your little one, this place is definitely worth hopping into on your next weekend adventure.
